(STEAM) Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics
Meet-the-Masters is a well-researched based program that has been providing engaging art projects and lessons to school districts since 1985. Students begin by focusing on a specific Master Artist each unit. The experience begins with a multi-media assembly using engaging PowerPoint slides, artist voices and music where the children learn about the fascinating lives and famous works of the Master Artists. Interactive questions and multi-media content captivates the students while walking through a virtual museum filled with interesting stories and facts. After learning the inspiration and techniques of each Master, the children are ready for the real fun. Students will study the same medium, style or subject matter as the Master. In doing so, students will discover their creativity while developing confidence in their own unique abilities through various art projects and STEAM activities.
Somerset Avenir is proud of its emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Music (STEAM) learning. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses these access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, collaboration, and critical thinking. In doing so, students will discover their creativity while developing confidence in their own unique abilities through various art projects and STEAM activities. Students will develop an engaging, hands-on classroom environment that helps empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.
Music
Somerset Avenir’s goal is to inspire and cultivate the musical gifts of young students, encouraging them to carry out their musicianship throughout their lives. In order to do this, students are also offered an experience to experiment with a variety of instruments and musical genres.
Character Education
Character education is a learning process that enables students and adults in a school community to understand, care about and act on core ethical values such as respect, justice, civic virtue and citizenship, and responsibility for self and others. Upon such core values, we form the attitudes and actions that are the hallmark of safe, healthy, and informed communities that serve as the foundation of our society.  Somerset Avenir uses Harmony Academy as a resource for morning meetings, classroom agreements, and character education lessons.  Somerset Avenir also highlights monthly character traits and students of the month that exemplfy that character trait.
